For years it has been a tradition that in the last weeks of October the Formula Ford Festival is there. All the top drivers in the world who are racing a Formula Ford can compete at this event which is held at the Brands Hatch circuit.
The Formula Ford found its roots in the early 60's and the first Formula Ford race took place at 2 July 1967 at Brand Hatch. Because of this class, it was possible for teams and manufacturers to develop their own chassis. Through the years there are developed many cars from manufacturers like Cooper, Van Diemen, Mygale, Ray, and many others. Ray is still producing cars at this moment.
Formula Ford was very popular until autosport became more professional on their cars like a carbon chassis and safety rules. For Formula Ford, it was difficult to implement this. Formula Ford lost its ground and Formula 4 was the new class for karting drivers to step up from karting. Winners from the past in Formula Ford are Mark Webber, Jenson Button, and many others. Nowadays the Festival still exists with a lot of good drivers who have a passion for racing and Formula Ford.
